Teaching Programmes

The leading of classroom learning is essential to any school.

The interrelationships of the main aspects of professional development underpin our programmes. These aspects are:

• Professional values and personal commitment
• Professional skills and abilities
• Professional knowledge and understanding

Our programmes are focused on learning, creativity, assessment, progress and ensuring that every child matters. We also view the programmes to be a potential stepping stone for classroom practitioners to develop their careers.

Here’s an example of some of the workshops that CPLP are offering:

Basic Safeguarding and Child Protection
A practical one day programme on basic Child Protection and Safeguarding for all staff that work with or around children
Engagement with this programme will ensure all participants know about and understand the basic principles of Child Protection and Safeguarding. People will finish the day feeling confident about their role and responsibilities with regard to Child Protection.
 
An Introduction to Mindfulness in Education
This workshop provides an introduction to the theory and practice of mindfulness, and will consider the benefits that it offers for teachers and pupils. There will be an introduction to the ‘.b’ (Stop & Breathe’) mindfulness curriculum for ages 11-18 and the Paws b curriculum for ages 7-11 that has been developed by the UK based Mindfulness in Schools Project in collaboration with Cambridge, Oxford and Exeter Universities. Participants will explore ways to focus and sustain attention, learning to accept their experiences in an open-minded way, using physical sensations as anchors whenever the mind wanders. The session will also consider how mindfulness skills can connect to the development of enhanced emotional regulation for teachers, to a range of curriculum areas, including social and emotional learning for students, and to a broader culture of wellbeing in school communities. 
 
Developing Questioning Skills
This one day programme for all classroom teachers interested in developing questioning skills, thinking skills and independent learning skills for their learners. The programme can be provided for primary or secondary teachers.
This programme provides practical ideas for teachers to promote and develop the questioning and thinking classroom. Drawing on practical and proven approaches it will model the thinking classroom, giving inspiration and confidence to teachers to develop their own practice.
 
PHSE and Circle Time in Your Primary Classroom
A one day programme for teachers and TAs working in Primary schools. This programme is packed with practical approaches and strategies to improve the classroom climate, develop emotional intelligence and improve relationships.
The programme provides rich opportunities for classroom practitioners to affirm and develop their practice.  Focused on best practice, participants will gain real insights into providing a positive classroom climate for young learners. Previous participants have found the programme inspiring, creative and motivational.
 
Questioning Skills and Creativity (Primary and Secondary) – Practical Strategies for a creative classroom
This is a practical one day programme ideal for classroom teachers interested in extending and energising their creative practice. It will also be useful for senior managers who are planning to lead professional development on Creativity in their own schools.


The Thinking Classroom

A one day programme for all classroom teachers interested in developing thinking and independent learning skills for their learners. Drawing on practical and proven approaches it will model the thinking classroom, giving inspiration and confidence to teachers to develop their own practice.The programme can be provided for primary or secondary teachers.

An outstanding lesson (Primary and Secondary)
A practical one day programme for classroom teachers to update on approaches to planning and delivering outstanding lessons.
This programme is ideal to build confidence in applying Ofsted criteria to plan and deliver outstanding/excellent lessons. Participants will leave the programme with increased awareness of the criteria for outstanding/excellent teaching and learning and confidence to plan to deliver outstanding/excellent lessons.

Assessment for Learning
A practical one day programme for classroom teachers to update on approaches to improving learning through assessment.

Current Educational Context in the UK
This one day programme will enable international teachers and leaders to understand the current educational context in England. We will explore the changes currently affecting the English education system including the types of schools, Ofsted, curriculum and recent research being applied to improve classroom practice and outcomes.
